Strobe Finance, the only native decentralized lending platform operating on the XRP Ledger EVM Sidechain, has announced it will shut down, giving users limited time to settle outstanding positions and withdraw funds.
The protocol said users must repay all active loans by July 13, while deposits must be withdrawn by July 20 before the platform’s front end permanently closes.
The closure leaves the XRPL EVM Sidechain without an active lending protocol and raises broader concerns about whether the network can sustain retail focused DeFi projects.
Why Strobe Is Shutting Down
In a statement shared on X late Tuesday, the Strobe team explained that financial constraints ultimately made the project unsustainable.
According to the team, Strobe secured enough funding to launch on mainnet but failed to attract additional capital through grants, angel investors, or venture funding. As total value locked declined, protocol revenue dropped to a level that could no longer cover operational costs.
The situation worsened as XRP declined by nearly 60 percent from its value at the time of Strobe’s launch, widening the funding gap even further.
Strobe also noted that the XRPL EVM Sidechain, once central to its long term vision, is no longer a major strategic focus within the broader Ripple ecosystem.
The team revealed that despite the growing challenges, members had continued supporting the project with hundreds of unpaid hours, but said continuing operations was no longer realistic.
What Users Need to Do
The protocol has already disabled new deposits and borrowing.
Users with active loans are required to repay them before July 13. After that date, Strobe will begin liquidating unpaid positions to protect lenders as liquidity continues to decline. Standard liquidation fees will apply, making early repayment the safer option.
From July 13 to July 20, the platform will remain accessible only for withdrawals.
After July 20, users will need to interact directly with Strobe’s smart contracts to retrieve funds. The team said it plans to release a detailed guide for this process, though it emphasized that withdrawing before the deadline will be much easier.
Strobe summarized the urgency clearly, stating that exiting before July 13 is strongly recommended, while withdrawing before July 20 is essential.
Community Concerns Grow
The shutdown has sparked concern across the XRP community.
Crypto commentator Shen described Strobe as a rare and innovative product within the XRP ecosystem, noting that it successfully brought decentralized lending to XRPL through the EVM Sidechain.
Shen questioned the long term viability of the ecosystem, arguing that if a unique project with little direct competition cannot survive, it raises serious questions about what types of projects can succeed on the network.
Another commentator, Krippenreiter, who had used the lending platform, described the shutdown as deeply concerning.
Meanwhile, Ripple appears to be focusing its attention elsewhere. Earlier this month, the company introduced an AI starter kit aimed at positioning XRP and its RLUSD stablecoin for autonomous payment systems and machine to machine transactions.
That institutional and developer centered strategy stands in sharp contrast to the retail lending use case that Strobe had been building toward.#crypto#cryptonews https://coinsignals.net https://t.me/coinsignalpublic
