Ethereum Foundation Co-Executive Director Hsiao-Wei Wang Steps Down

Hsiao-Wei Wang has stepped down from her role as co-executive director and board member of the Ethereum Foundation following the conclusion of her sabbatical.

Her departure adds to a growing list of high profile exits from the Ethereum Foundation this year, raising fresh questions about leadership changes within the organization.

Another Major Departure for the Ethereum Foundation

Wang announced her decision on social media, explaining that her extended break gave her time to reflect deeply on her priorities and future direction.

She shared that after returning from sabbatical, she decided to officially step down from both leadership positions effective immediately.

Wang also noted that Bastian Aue helped manage the leadership transition during her absence.

Reflecting on her time at the Foundation, Wang expressed pride in what the Ethereum community has accomplished over the years. She credited the network’s growth to the collective efforts of developers, researchers, educators, validators, users, and many other contributors across the ecosystem.

Her departure follows several other major exits from the Ethereum Foundation this year. Notable figures who have left include Tomasz Stanczak, Julian Ma, Carl Beek, Tim Beiko, Trent Van Epps, and Barnabé Monnot.

Following Wang’s exit, the remaining board members are Vitalik Buterin, Patrick Storchenegger, and Aya Miyaguchi.

The series of departures has fueled speculation within the community, with some interpreting the leadership changes as signs of internal tension or governance challenges.

However, community member Ryan Beckmans argued that these concerns may be overstated, saying the organization remains strongly committed to Ethereum’s long term success.

Wang said she is still considering her next chapter but remains deeply connected to the Ethereum community. She closed her announcement by thanking contributors and recognizing the community’s ongoing role in driving the ecosystem forward.

Vitalik Buterin Praises Wang’s Contributions

Wang became co-executive director last year alongside Tomasz Stanczak, helping lead the organization through one of its most challenging periods.

Vitalik Buterin praised Wang for her decade long contribution to Ethereum, highlighting her leadership, dedication, and ability to balance both technical and human considerations.

He noted that Wang consistently approached her work with professionalism and care, always striving for outcomes that benefited both the Ethereum protocol and the people building and maintaining it.

Buterin also reflected on Wang’s early years at the Foundation, crediting her with helping make Ethereum’s research and consensus efforts more structured and accessible.

In addition, he praised her role in building a strong Ethereum community in Taipei through meaningful events and local engagement.#crypto#cryptonews https://coinsignals.net https://t.me/coinsignalpublic
