Kraken and Maple have introduced a new on chain warehouse financing facility aimed at bringing institutional grade credit infrastructure to crypto lending.
The initiative is designed to merge traditional credit market protections with blockchain based lending, creating a more secure and structured framework for institutional participants.
The facility will be denominated in USD Coin and will support Kraken’s over the counter lending operations. Institutional clients will be able to borrow against their holdings in Bitcoin and Ethereum without needing to sell their assets.
Traditional Credit Structure Moves On Chain
According to both companies, this marks one of the first attempts to replicate the structural protections commonly found in asset backed securities markets entirely on blockchain infrastructure.
The facility is built around a dedicated special purpose vehicle designed to remain bankruptcy remote. At the same time, Kraken affiliates will originate, service, and retain the junior tranche of the loans.
This first loss position ensures Kraken absorbs initial losses before senior lenders are impacted, creating stronger alignment between borrowers, lenders, and the platform itself.
Warehouse financing has long been a critical component of traditional credit markets, helping fund products such as mortgages, auto loans, and consumer lending before they are packaged into larger investment structures.
Under the new model introduced by Kraken and Maple, collateral in BTC and ETH will be held by a Wyoming chartered Special Purpose Depository Institution, which also serves as a regulated qualified custodian.
The facility will be administered by Zaria, providing independent oversight.
Sidney Powell, CEO and Co Founder of Maple, described the launch as a major milestone for institutional crypto finance. He noted that the infrastructure supporting the multi trillion dollar asset backed securities market has never previously existed fully on chain.
According to Powell, this facility brings that proven framework into digital asset markets while preserving the structural safeguards institutions expect.
Kraken Expands Institutional Strategy
Kraken Co CEO Arjun Sethi said the launch comes in response to growing client demand for institutional capital formation tools similar to those used in traditional finance.
The partnership with Maple follows several major initiatives by Kraken aimed at bridging traditional finance and blockchain infrastructure.
Recently, Kraken partnered with Nasdaq to develop tokenized equities and expand blockchain based access to capital markets.
As part of that collaboration, Kraken’s tokenized equity product, xStockz, will help power permissionless infrastructure intended to support Nasdaq’s issuer sponsored equity tokens.
Separately, Deutsche Börse acquired a $200 million stake in Kraken in February, valuing the exchange’s parent company at approximately $13.3 billion.
The latest partnership with Maple further strengthens Kraken’s push to build institutional grade financial products at the intersection of traditional finance and blockchain technology.#crypto#cryptonews https://coinsignals.net https://t.me/coinsignalpublic
